The Labor & Delivery Bag

What I am packing into my labor & delivery bag:

  • Energy Bars
  • Cheese
  • Hard-boiled eggs
  • Fruit cups
  • Honey Sticks

Labor Beverages

  • Coconut Water
  • Gatorade
  • Water

After-Delivery Beverages

Clothes

  • L&D Gown
  • Pajamas / Night Gowns x2
  • Cheap, comfortable underwear that I won’t mind ruining
  • A going-home outfit
  • Clothes for husband (bathing suit!)
  • Socks w/ non-slip soles
  • Bathing suit
  • Slippers

L&D Aids

  • Several music playlists on cell phone or lap top
  • A book with inspirational spiritual excerpts from Margaret L. Hammer’s Giving Birth: Reclaiming the Biblical Metaphor for Pastoral Practice
  • A book with Web funnies (I’m sure I’ll need them)
  • Birthing ball + pump
  • My mother’s little urn of ashes + a small framed photograph of her

Toiletries

  • Good shampoo & conditioner, facial scrub, etc. My first shower after delivery needs to feel like heaven.
  • Razor. I’ll finally be able to see my pubes again and take my jungle down to a neatly-managed garden!
  • Shaving cream (see above)
  • Make-up. I may look like crap for my immediate delivery photos, but I’m gonna look good for the later hospital pics.
  • Blow dryer w/ diffuser and straightener (see above)
  • Curling iron (see above)
  • Hair spray, hair mousse, and hair gel
  • Lip balm
  • Tooth paste
  • Tooth brush

Other

  • Camera
  • Cell phone & charger
  • Teddy bear (yes, I sleep with one of these)
  • Several copies of birth plan
  • Journal
  • Levothyroxine & vitamins (3-4 day supply)
  • Nursing pads
  • Pens
  • Bath towel
  • Insurance card
  • Baby memory book

For Baby

  • Going home outfit w/ hat
  • A few disposable diapers (even though I’m using cloth, I have some of these from samples, so I figure I’ll just use them)
  • A bottle (not planning to use it, but just in case)
  • Mini-diaper bag
  • A receiving blanket
  • Car seat
  • Warm blanket

Am I missing anything important? Any suggestions?
