Home Stretch

Remember when I used to blog here? Wasn’t that fun? I can’t believe I’ve actually gone 6 weeks without a post!

I am 36+2 now, having reached the point where, if I go into labor, they won’t try to stop it, they’ll just deliver even though babies aren’t considered full-term until 37 weeks. So far my pregnancy continues to be healthy. I’m dealing with some (mostly-nocturnal) leg cramps, which is either due to pregnancy or Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, the latter of which is very prevalent in my family. Only time will tell.

I just had my baby shower yesterday, and it was fantastic. While there are still lots of “would-be-nice-to-haves” on my registry, we’re pretty set on all of the essentials minus the crib + mattress, and I am overwhelmed by the generosity of our friends. As far as the crib goes, I am totally the kind of person who loves to buy used to save money and help the planet, but I think I am actually going to invest in a new crib/changer combo that converts into a toddler bed, because: (1) the one I want has three drawers in it and will really save space; (2) most of the used cribs on Craigslist look like junk or the seller didn’t even bother to post pictures; (3) the ones that are sturdy and wooden and the seller actually bothered to post pics, the seller wants almost as much as it cost new. Since I don’t own a truck, I’d have to factor in the cost of renting a U-Haul to go pick the crib up. Just not worth the effort when Amazon Prime beckons with its tasty, tasty two-day delivery.

(BTW, I am amazed at how many sellers on Craiglist are trying to sell their used crib mattresses with their cribs. That means they’re either ignorant of the correlation between used mattresses and SIDS, or worse, they just don’t care. I still had the mattress that my daughter slept on as a baby as of April of this year. I threw it out.)

We’re all moved into my new apartment now. How strange it is to actually have room to move around! I have the pack ‘n’ play with its bassinet set up in our master bedroom right next to our bed, so if baby comes early, at least s/he will have a place to sleep. PS—never knew organizing baby junk could be so exhausting!

In other news, hot doctor might not be in town for my delivery. My due date is the 20th; his sister is getting married on the 15th, so he’s out of town for a few days for the wedding. Haven’t done any real work on establishing a back-up yet, but I will this week.

Anyways, that’s it for me for now. I’m still working 40 hours a week, tomorrow is my daughter’s first day at her new school, and sleep beckons.
